History

Northeast Editing, Inc. began in 1992 (as Northeast Publishing) when Tracey Vasil Biscontini, an educator, author, and journalist, left her "day job" as an editor for an educational publisher to spend more time with her young children. Biscontini's skills were sorely missed, however, and her former employer asked her to continue providing the company with consulting, editing, and writing services on a freelance basis. Word of her availability spread, and she soon acquired other clients—Northeast Editing, Inc. was born.

Biscontini's children grew quickly and so did her business. She soon had a pool of freelancers assisting her with everything from authoring content to proofreading. When her home office overflowed into a spare bedroom and nearby hallway, she and her family decided it was time to move Northeast Editing, Inc. to its own location and hire a full-time staff. The business was first located on the fifth floor of the Penn-Park Office Building on Main Street in Pittston, Pennsylvania, where Biscontini and her staff worked for several years. Within time, however, Northeast Editing, Inc.'s highly creative (and a tad eccentric) staff grew tired of gray walls and fluorescent lights and desperately needed more space.

In 2006, Biscontini and husband/business partner Nick purchased a historic home in Jenkins Township that was once used as a rectory. The spacious building had a kitchen, a beautiful backyard, a large parking lot, and many rooms that could be converted into offices. In a few short (exhausting) months, the renovations were complete and the employees of Northeast Editing, Inc. moved into their new home away from home. Around this time, the company hired additional on- and offsite staff and was welcomed into the American Book Producers' Association.
